Wipro aims to be a leading brand for the protection of environment. Our vision for environment management is based on precautionary principle which also happen to be key driver for internal R & D team.

Our materials use policy revolves around reduce, reuse, recycle and recovered materials from recycling process is being channelized for further manufacturing for various components. We have strong supplier chain management which address most of the concerns related to material use. We have strict practice which prohibits use of certain chemicals, reduces the usage of paper fiber and to avoid usage of conflict metals. We have regular interactive discussion with our suppliers to disclose their source of material. We consider UN reporting on conflict mining as tool to verify usage in our product line and have plan to revisit on periodic basis. We are in full support to any kind of legislation which prohibits the mining in conflict zone.

Wipro has identified list of chemicals which has been banned, restricted and targeted for reduction with the aim of phasing out their use in products. The supplier chain management unit has full access and knowledge of each materials being used in product line. We have an understanding with suppliers to disclose all kind of chemicals and metals used in their component.

Since the environmental indicators are important criterion for selection of suppliers, therefore we have good practice in place which helps the team to take corrective decision in case of discrepancies. The engagement with suppliers is based on mutual learning and training. We are open to reconsider the business relationship with suppliers if they fail to provide the materials according to our standard.

Paper Fiber Use policy

We are very much aware about illegal deforestation, energy and water use for paper industry. Our paper policy aim to increase the usage of recycled paper and restrict usage of paper fiber to bare minimum. The policy has helped suppliers as well as Wipro to save lot of cost and materials. The new carton boxes for packaging are much lighter in weight and easy to access and transportation. The volume of each packet has been reduced from 3.3 kg to 2.8 kg. The smart packaging policy has helped us to cut down paper fiber use by 15%..

In addition to above we are running internal as well as external campaign to reduce usage of paper. The campaign encourages people not to print emails and documents. This initiatives has cut down the internal paper usage from 623 rims to 145 rims..

Wipro further aim to reduce paper usage by 8% by 2011-12.
